How can the library here at North Hennepin assist you? The
library at NHCC provides a number of services that can be of use to you.
If you're new to the college, you should know that your student ID card also serves as your library card. You'll need it to check
items out, to request interlibrary loan items from other schools/libraries, and
to log-in to use our online databases when you're off campus (you can also use
your StarID to log-in to our databases). The 14-digit barcode number on the
back of your ID is what you'll need to log-in, along with your last name. If you encounter any
problems with logging-in, either on-campus or off-, you can give us a call or
send us an email or stop by in person and we’ll get that fixed for you.
Books from the library circulate for 21 days and they
can be renewed twice, either in-person, over the phone, or online (just ask one
of us to show you how this works). We also provide interlibrary loan service,
whereby we can request items (books, articles, videos) from other colleges and
libraries in the PALS system. If you'd like a quick how-to demonstration on how
to place ILL requests, please stop by the library sometime.
We offer a Reserve Desk function, which allows faculty to place
items on reserve for their students. These can be books, videos, class notes,
etc. These items are restricted to in-library use only, generally, which means that everyone will conceivably have access to them.
Our Reference Desk is staffed regularly, between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm on weekdays. We're working at the desk so that we're directly available to assist you with research for your papers and assignments. Don't be afraid to ask for help! If someone is not available at the Reference Desk, please come and knock on our doors (Craig is in LRC 136 and Lisa is in LRC 138) or give us a call (Craig's phone is: 763-424-0733 and Lisa's is: 763-424-0738) or send us an email (at either email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org). We also have 24 hour chat reference service available on the library's homepage.
The library has a number of areas available for quiet study,
including the west end of the library, with tables and study carrels and
wireless Internet access. We also have 6 quiet study rooms available for group
study (meaning 2 or more students, up to a maximum of 6), 2 of which are
equipped with collaboration tables that allow students to plug-in their laptops
and share images with each other on a big screen television. The study rooms
may also be used as video-viewing rooms if a student has missed watching a
video in class or you have videos placed on reserve. The study rooms are quite
popular and there is often a waiting list to use them
